Well this could be the mash up of the month, or even longer to be honest. I've now had a chance to listen to the Scissor Sisters mash up Da-Tah and here's a quick review. When it comes to mix artists all the usual suspects are represented here, and more importantly they don't disappoint. I do like the camp pop disco of the Scissor Sisters so the starting point was already a few steps up the ladder, however, I haven't yet bought Ta-dah so was very interested to have a listen to this. As for a high point on the album, I think I would say that London Kiss by DJ Matt Hite goes down a storm, and to think of mixing those two together was a great idea. Golden Lights by DJ Copycat is also fantastic, could keep many on the dancefloor this summer coming.
I also loved Ordinary People on the Other Side by Apollo Zero, anyone who drops an obscure Gary Numan B-side into a mix gets the thumbs up from me, thanks Apollo!! To say that the rest doesn't work would be well and truly wrong though. The whole album works and works well. The extra tracks are great too. Keep a look out for An Ordinary Salmon and Sweet Mama O'Mine to see how far mashing can go.
If anyone is unsure about the ethics of mash-ups and their free availability online I have this to add. After listening to the mash version I will be going out and buying the original.
And if anyone thinks I may be going a little OTT in the review, why not take a listen to what is below, and then go along here and download it.
Here's a great new mash-up collection available for all lovers of the genre. This time, following on from Portishead and Green Day, we have the Scissor Sisters being mashed.
You can find out and download it from here
Bobby Martini is awesome when it comes to mashing things up and I think this fact should be told to the world. So I hope you enjoy this.
Trust me on this, there are some mash-ups that sound good, some mash-ups that make you think that is cool, but this mash-up creates a brand new song that is possibly better than the two originals. See what you think.
Then you just have to go and visit this. Here you'll find the wonderful mash album Stuck in the Eighties. It is really good, and I recommend listening to it as a whole album as that was the way it was put together - the tracks go well together, even if not mixed into one another. Hope you like it, grab it while you can.
